Course Substitution Petition Information

Bioengineering, Bioinformatics, and Biomolecular Engineering
  • Complete the Course Substitution Petition. Make sure to include your full name, ID, UCSC email, UCSC course you are replacing, and the name and number of the course you will be taking at a Community College.
     
  • Send an email to the Biomolecular Engineering Undergraduate Directors, Kevin Karplus (karplus@ucsc.edu) and David Bernick (dbernick@ucsc.edu). Your email should include the following:
    • Subject Line: Course Substitution - YOUR STUDENT ID
    • Full name
    • Student ID
    • Major
    • Curriculum year you’ve been following
    • and Brief explanation of your request in the body of your email.
       
  • Professor Karplus will respond to your inquiry in 2 - 4 weeks.
Computer Engineering, Network and Digital Technology, Electrical Engineering, Applied Math, Statistics, Computer Science Game Design, Robotics 
  • Complete the Course Substitution Petition. Make sure to include your full name, ID, UCSC email, UCSC course you are replacing, and the name and number of the course you will be taking at another school.
     
  • Email a PDF of the form to bsoeadvising@ucsc.edu. The subject line of the email should be, “Course Substitution - YOUR STUDENT ID.”
     
  • Our office will email you the Department’s response to your petition in 2 - 4 weeks.
Computer Science

1. Gather as much course information as possible about the course you are hoping to substitute for the requirement.

  • The petition will ask for course website and instructor contact info.
  • A course syllabus or other detailed list of topics covered in the course plus the title of any textbook (if applicable) is also needed.
  • Catalog descriptions are generally not enough information.
  • The more information you are able to provide, the better your chances for a successful petition are!

2. Fill out a Computer Science Course Substitution Petition.

3. Save a copy of your Courses Student Advising Summary.
Please review the instructions for accessing and downloading your student advising summary.

4. Send the petition and your Courses Student Advising Summary to the Computer Science Undergraduate Program Director.

  • Petitions should be emailed to csugraddir@soe.ucsc.edu.
  • Be sure that your email includes your Name and your Student ID number in the subject of the email.
Technology and Information Management
  • Complete the Course Substitution Petition. Make sure to include your full name, ID, UCSC email, UCSC course you are replacing, and the name and number of the course you will be taking at a Community College.
     
  • Email a PDF of the form to the TIM Undergraduate Director, Subhas Desa (sdesa@ucsc.edu), and CC Adviser Greta Hull (ghull@ucsc.edu). The subject line of the email should be, “Course Substitution Petition - YOUR STUDENT ID.”
     
  • Our office will email you the Department’s response to your petition in 2 - 4 weeks.
