Huffman Prize

This annual prize honors the memory and the legacy of its namesake–David A. Huffman, Computer Science Professor Emeritus.  David A. Huffman was a distinguished member of the UC Santa Cruz faculty and one of the founders of the first department in what is now the Jack Baskin School of Engineering.  His research in information sciences was highly original and eclectic and displayed a unique aesthetic. The Huffman coding procedure for minimum redundancy codes is the most celebrated of his achievements.  Throughout his long teaching career, he offered conceptual challenges to students to expand their sphere of thought and sharpen their analytical abilities.  His classes were an inspiration to countless students. This scholarship is restricted to graduating seniors. Application deadline April 13, 2018.
