Santa Cruz Launchpad - Submit Your Pitch Idea by May 11th
Santa Cruz Launchpad is UCSC's annual pitch contest combined with Santa Cruz Works' job fair. This year's event will be held on June 1 at the Cowell Hay Barn. Student teams are invited to apply and will receive two weeks of coaching on their pitches prior to the event. Qualifying teams will be eligible for over $40,000 in prizes!

Are you interested in organizing a hackathon? GraceHacks is looking for organized, reliable individuals to join their Tech, Design, PR, Logistics, and Sponsorship teams! You will be given the opportunity to help host workshops and assist participants during the hackathon. Team members will gain valuable experience planning this event as well as various workshops during the year. Through this experience, you will learn to work in a collective team and help other teams within GraceHacks. UC Santa Cruz Entrepreneurial Day is at Merrill Cultural Center on May 21st (Saturday)!
The Entrepreneurial Day is a two-part one-day (12:00 PM - 5:00 PM PT) event that showcases on-campus ventures/start-ups and entrepreneurial resources through a tabling session, and a follow-up speaker panel session for students to network with entrepreneurs. Through this event, we aim to promote the entrepreneurial spirits on campus to encourage and support more entrepreneurial Slugs! The tabling session starts at 12:00 PM PT and ends at 1:30 PM PT; food will be provided for free after the tabling session.
The Next Gen SAM $20,000 Scholarship Opportunity
We are providing information on a $20,000 scholarship opportunity that may be of interest to you as a BSOE undergraduate, who may be interested in a career in Applied Mathematics and/or Scientific Computing. This scholarship to students in ALL BSOE majors wishing to pursue an MS in Scientific Computing and Applied Mathematics (see below).
If you have never heard about Applied Mathematics/Scientific Computing or thought about graduate school, please watch this video to learn what Applied Mathematics is, the wide range of amazing career opportunities that a degree can open, and why continuing into graduate school for just one more year can seriously boost your chances of securing your dream job.
The Next Gen SAM scholarship program:
The Next Gen SAM program at UCSC provides 2-year scholarships (up to $10,000/year for 2 years) for low-income students interested in pursuing the 4+1 program leading to the Master of Science degree in Scientific Computing and Applied Mathematics.
Students are invited to join the program based on financial needs and remarkable academic achievements, among other criteria. More specifically, applications are open to all BSOE students with junior standing, registered with FAFSA, and who have a minimum of 3.3 GPA, who are planning to graduate from their undergraduate major next academic year. Successful candidates will start receiving the scholarship next academic year (starting in the Fall) for 2 years. Read more on how to apply here.
The Next Gen SAM program has already helped many UCSC students from low-income backgrounds succeed in the 4+1 program, graduate with an MS, and secure jobs in Silicon Valley. In addition to the scholarships, the program offers a range of other critical resources. Watch this brief video to learn more.

Register for Commencement by May 16th
A friendly reminder that commencement registration is open until May 16 at 11:59 p.m. in “Marching Order,” the commencement registration system. Please make sure to submit all the information into the system by this deadline.

REGISTER FOR COMMENCEMENT
Commencement will consist of a virtual commencement ceremony and in-person stage crossing experience - Slug Crossing! Marching Order is the commencement registration portal, where graduates will be able to register for both virtual and in-person experiences. Registration opens Monday, March 28, at that time the registration link will be emailed to the graduates. Graduates are able to log back into the system at any point up until the deadline of Monday, May 16 at 11:59 PM to update their photo and/or message for the virtual ceremony and change their time for Slug Crossing.

The Skydio team will be on hand to give attendees hands-on flight time and a live look into cutting-edge drone technology. Staff from the CITRIS Initiative for Drone Education and Research (CIDER) will talk about research and educational applications for autonomous drones. Refreshments provided.
